Stephen graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2009 after studying Decorative Arts. It was while studying that he found his interest in both ceramics and blown glass.

While studying he was able to study abroad for four months in the south of Sweden. Here he studied at Kalmar Design school in Nybro; part of Kalmar University. The 'Glass Design' course is run in conjunction with the last few major glass factories such as Orrefors and Costa-Boda. The school itself is within the old Pukeburg glass factory and works with the hot house as it exists today to have work made.

After graduating from Nottingham Trent University, Stephen and a fellow maker opened 'The Studio' based in Arleston in Derbyshire. 'Kontur' became the trademark name that Stephen then began to sell his work by.
'Kontur' makes bespoke, hand-made ceramic vessles and sculptures that are made to be treasured for years to come.
